About Me

My photo
I have two kids - a girl and a boy - and live in north-central Minnesota, land of snow and ice. Well, for 9 months of the year, that is. I work full-time for a local government, and on my "free time" I enjoy cooking, baking, hanging out with my kiddos, and RELAXING.

nervous

Well, the nervousness has finally hit me. I was totally fine until last night when I was laying (lying??) in bed and then all of a sudden it was like OH MY GOSH. Probably won't get too much sleep for the next couple of nights...I'm thinking some Tylenol PM might be in order. Mom and I are taking tomorrow and Friday off to get some stuff done so I only have to get through today at work, and then I'm home free. :)

Last night I went out to the house and cleaned and organized for four hours. Still not even close to being done, but oh well. It took forever because I had to wash all the dishes and wipe down all the cupboards in the kitchen since no one has lived there and they haven't been cleaned for a year. Can you say dusty? It took longer because we don't have the hot water heater on so I had to boil water to use, but I got almost everything done.

I opened up my Kitchenaid mixer last night but I don't think it's the right one. It's a 4 1/2 quart bowl but only the beater was in there, not the dough hook or the wisk. I was looking on the sheet to see the attatchments because I was just going to buy those two separately but my model number wasn't even on the sheet. Then today I looked online and couldn't find it anywhere, so it might have been a discontinued one. Mom and I are going to check in Brainerd tomorrow to see if they are on sale and I'm going to get another one and return that one since it's really weird.

Today needs to go by FAST. I can't stand it! :)

five days to go

I can't believe I'm getting married in five days. This week is going to fly by...well, except the 8 hours I spend at work every day. I'm thinking about taking Thursday afternoon off, and I'm for sure taking Friday off, so it's a short work week at least. It's so slow here and I'm bored all the time. Notice the increase in blogging and facebook time. I have been able to accomplish a lot of wedding things, which is really nice. I already did my Quickbooks for the day, for the most part, so now I'm just sitting here. I have to wait for the accountant to come next week so I can start with the adjusted beginning balances in the accounts. That way there's less work for later.

Darren's off to BWCA with his best man this morning. They'll come out on Wednesday. Darren said if we haven't heard from them by dark on Wednesday to call the Ranger station in Ely and tell them that two guys are up there. Made me a little worried. But I'm just praying he gets home safely. It was hard to let him go but I didn't want to take it away from him. It's who he is. He just loves that stuff.

The casino bill is going to be a monster. We should be getting it Wednesday or so. I can't believe how expensive this wedding is! We're going to be so broke afterwards. At least we both get paid this week. Everything is coming together. There's still quite a bit to do, but I should be able to handle it. :)

Wedding stress

I can't believe the wedding is only like a week away! There's still so much to do. I have a meeting with my photographer next week, and a million things to do this weekend. Mostly I'm stressed about the money. With 320+ guests it's EXPENSIVE. We're meeting with a woman from the casino tonight and have to pay 25%. We'll probably pay the whole thing since it's due 48 hours before the wedding and we don't really want to head back up there. We're going to be broke after this! My grandma asked me this week if I needed any money...may have to take her up on it. :)

11 days to go...

Only 11 days until the wedding! It seems so unreal still. Yesterday I printed out 350 ceremony programs and today's project is to fold them, along with about 10 other things I have to do. I can't believe how much work planning a wedding is! So far we have 306 confirmed guests to the reception and there will be more at the ceremony. It's going to be crowded! Oh well, there's no other place to have the ceremony. I think Lakeside is one of the bigger churches around. Plus it's the church I grew up in, so I want to get married there.

Well, it's freezing cold today (40 below in some places this morning!) but the weather for the 24th is 29 degrees, so far. Hope it stays that warm. :) Next week is supposed to be warm basically all week, so that's good. Okay, I better get going on all those programs!

another change

Our plans have changed again. Darren has decided to change to a forestry major and will be attending the U starting in the fall. We'll be moving to the cities for two and a half years while he finishes. I have next fall at NWC, so it'll be nice for me to not have to commute. And nice to not move in January, like we would have if we had gone to Crookston.

This is about the fourth change, so I'm not really sure if it will stick, based on past experience. First we were going to live in St. Cloud while he went to school for surveying. I was going to commute to school in the cities on Tuesday and Thursday. Then he changed his major to law enforcement/DNR and we were going to go to Crookston. He was going to take classes at the U next fall while I finished up and then we were going to move up to Crookston for spring semester. Then we decided I would commute for that fall from home and he would take classes at the community college he is going to now. And then a couple days ago he decided to switch his major to forestry and now we'll be back in St. Paul. But, the most important thing is that he's happy with what he does. The only sad part is I already gave up my job at the school since I thought I'd only be in St. Paul on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, so now I'll have to find a new job. Or just not find one at all and wait until I graduate.

It must run in the family: Darren's dad went through five different majors! But Darren said it'll be easier to get a job with a forestry degree, and I like it because it's more predictable (home on nights and weekends) than being a conservation officer. That was my only problem with his last major: I was just afraid he would never be home. I am WAY more excited to live in the cities than in Crookston. No one even knows where it is. I didn't until I almost had to live there! But I have family in the cities and Darren's sister will be starting school down there in the fall, too, so that will be nicer than not knowing a soul up in the prairie. Too bad some of our friends in the cities just moved down to Iowa. At least we'll be closer, though.

Which MinneSNOWtan are you??

I was trying to find January weather averages today and I found this. Funny, but so true. :)

Wedding cake

We met with the cake lady last night so we finally have a cake! I think it will turn out really nice. We're getting SIX sheet cakes and having a small tiered cake to cut and for the wedding party if they want it. It's lemon-flavored. She brought some samples of it last night and it was GOOD.

Tonight we're meeting with Pastor to finish up our counseling. We can have him sign a form stating we completed 12 hours so our marriage application fee will only be $40 instead of $110 (woo-hoo!). I called the courthouse today to see if we both needed to apply in person or if just one of us could go, and the woman I spoke with told me only one of us needs to show up but later said that we both need to sign in person...not sure what to think about that. So that's something I would like to get done this week, along with finalizing the ceremony program and printing it, making copies of the keys for the house we're living in, assembling the gifts for my bridesmaids, calling the woman altering my dress, finishing our slideshow, taking my ring to get the bands sautered to it, at meeting with our contact at the reception site. Only 18 days to finish up the beast of a list I have!

2009

Wow, 2009 already! The past two weeks have flown by. We spent New Year's Eve and Day with our friends helping them pack and move to Iowa, so we had fun but didn't get too crazy. We barely managed to stay awake to see the ball drop.

The next couple weeks will be BUSY with wedding things. I already have a beastly list of things to accomplish this week alone. I can't believe the wedding is only 19 days away. It doesn't feel real yet. My personal shower went well (got lots of nice things!) and the church gave me a shower this past Saturday. I got a ton of Pampered Chef stuff and I'm so excited for it! :) Darren and I did a lot of work at the house we'll be living in getting little stuff done. We got dowels put in the two closets so we'll have a place to hang things and did the overhead shower lights in the bathrooms. We also hung up the towel rods and hooks in the two bathrooms. Well, mostly he did everything and I ran around getting him things while providing various comments.

Quickbooks is calling me so I had best get to work.
